Chilean wines show yet again that they are a force to be reckoned with

Zarcillo

We tasted a great selection of wines at tonight’s Chilean-themed Wine & Dine, held by the Central London Wine Society. I found two of the whites, the BioBio 2015 Zarcillo Gewurztraminer and the San Antonio 2008 Casa Marin Riesling, to be especially good – I love a Gewurzt, and at just £6.50 (from The Wine Society, in case you’re tempted), this one is cracking value. The reds were impressive too – unusually for me, I scored no fewer than four of them at 5/7; I can’t remember the last time I did that. Only the Leyda 2012 Vina Leyda Pinot Noir disappointed, with the Casablanca 2012 Casas del Bosque Pequeras Syrah, Colchaqua 2011 Montes Alpha Malbec, Alta Colchagua 2010 Clos des Fous Cabernet Sauvignon and Central Valley NV Caballo Loco Number 15 all delivering on colour, taste and length. And the nose on that Syrah…mmm.
