I’m a big fan of Brewer Street’s Mele e Pere – and a big fan of Italian food in general. So, when my lovely friend Joanna told me that a sister restaurant, ‘Gotto’, was opening in Hackney Wick, I needed no persuasion at all to join Jo there for dinner. It’s an interesting choice of location: I hadn’t been to that part of Hackney for years – and was astounded by how much it’s changed – everywhere you look there are new apartments, restaurants and bars springing up and there’s a real buzz to the place. The restaurant is based near the canal and I found myself experiencing severe houseboat envy – what a great way to live.
Anyway, on to the food. It was DIVINE, as was the Sicilian wine that we washed our three courses down with. Wispy, delicate fish, creamy & moreish burrata, scrumptious pasta…for me, there was only one problem – which was that I couldn’t finish my tiramisu. I know. I am very disappointed with myself.
