Just back from a lovely evening at Vivat Bacchus, a mellow City wine bar known for its well-stocked wine cellar and its famed Cheese Room. Needless to say, we partook enthusiastically of both, while soaking up the live jazz that’s become such a big draw on Friday nights.
The stand out wine for me? A Domaine Schlumberger Pinot Blanc 2013 from Alsace – it was elegant & memorable, with that touch of sweetness you’d expect from a Pinot Blanc. For Noriko, it was the Genelly Glas Collection Unoaked Chardonnay, a 2014 beauty from Stellenbosch that she described as “heavenly”. Wine, cheese and jazz: can there be a better combination?
